This was a very easy review, in fact it only takes two sentences: Antwone Fisher stars THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME Denzel Washington. You must watch it – period, stop, end of story.
All the acting was superb, and no surprise since this movie was also directed by THE GREAT Denzel Washington. Derek Luke was spectacular as Antwone Fisher, with Denzel as Commander Jerome Davenport, a navy psychiatrist. Smaller roles were Joy Bryant as Antwone’s girlfriend Cheryl, and Salli Richardson as Jerome’s wife Berta. For a very brief synopsis, the movie was about a young naval serviceman Antwone, who had violence issues with shipmates, and was referred to counsel with Doctor Davenport to determine whether he should stay in the navy or get booted out. We are then taken on a journey through the incredible challenges Antwone faced as a foster child in a horribly abusive environment.
Not much else to say – in fact, revealing any more about such a great movie would be a disservice to you, dear readers. This is a 100% guarantee that you will love it. One final thought, even great movies sometimes have an ending that is a bit of a letdown. Well this movie had one of the best endings. And while I was still glowing about what I thought was the end, it got even better. And then I found out this whole movie was a true story. Jiminy Christmas! Eleven hooyahs out of ten!
